What is a Tamil panchangam?
A panchangam is the Hindu almanac. It shows the five main parts of each day — tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and weekday — along with daily times such as the good time (nalla neram), rahu kalam, yamagandam, kuligai, horai and gowri panchangam. This page brings today's complete almanac sheet together in one place for any city in the world.
Frequently asked questions
What is a panchangam used for?
To know today's tithi and nakshatra, and to choose good days and times for auspicious events, fasts and festivals.
Are these times right for my city?
The sun timings (sunrise, rahu kalam and so on) are computed for your city. The tithi, nakshatra and festivals follow Tamil Nadu (Chennai) time — the same day worldwide.
What are tithi and nakshatra?
Tithi is the lunar day; nakshatra is the star the Moon sits in that day. Both change every day.
What is today's rahu kalam time?
Rahu kalam changes every day and depends on your city and the weekday. The time is shown on the almanac sheet above. Change your city to get the exact time for your location.
How do I find my birth nakshatra?
Your birth nakshatra is the star the Moon was in when you were born. Enter your date and time of birth on the Jathagam page to find it instantly.
What is rasi palan?
Rasi palan shows whether today is a good, mixed or challenging day for each of the 12 birth signs (rasi), based on where the Moon transits relative to your janma rasi.
What is tarabalam?
Tarabalam shows how today's nakshatra relates to your birth star — whether the day is good, mixed or to be avoided. It counts the position of today's star from yours and applies the traditional nine-tara rule.
What are Ekadasi and Pradosham?
Ekadasi is the 11th tithi of each lunar fortnight, observed as a fast honouring Vishnu. Pradosham falls on the 13th tithi evening, observed as a fast honouring Shiva.
How are wedding muhurtham dates calculated?
By the traditional rules of tithi, nakshatra and Tamil month — the same rules printed in panchangam books. The muhurtham page lists all eligible dates for the year.
